Lost Art Beer Slug 2022
I was sipping on a SOL with a sunken Lime in a Mexican restaurant on Saturday night when a circle of life realisation struck me.
I was in the 'auld Lost Art upstairs from the old printers on the new Bold street.
I was literally sat in the very spot where Mackey expressed to me how happy he was that the Howard Cooke Guest boards had arrived and my first ever Lost Art Illustration commission had come to fruition.
I also recall with great detail the sinking feeling and red faced grin we exchanged when mack asked
" Was the Beer can meant to be that small ?"
We laughed it off and put it down to a character building learning curve.
(*Alway 300 DPI full scale! )
The hand screened shirts looked fantastic on the rails.
The design was full scale and looked really striking on the shirt then i realised it was on the front!
Mack asks
" Was the idea to have the small LA slug on the back shoulder?"
I waffled out some semi convincing answer confirming that it was intentional. Partly playing on the phrase "Chip on ya Shoulder" and a homage to a red consolidated shirt i saw Howard wear with a cube shoulder print.
The truth was more likley id confused Paul or Al in set up communication. Im also aware that their was alot of pilgrim pints in the system back then.
Laughs and handshakes were exchanged and with my payment i went and bought my first SMA 58 Microphone ( still using ). The following day Howard, Willy, Sam, Tom and myself jumped in Honda Civic and drove 5 hours North with instruments on our laps to play Livingston Fun Day 2007.
It rained all weekend.
Cold Ones Didn't play, we couldn't skate , we drove home....
The Beer slug T-shirt design took on a funny life of its own.
It went on to have several re prints both front and back.
Urban outfitters New York offered to buy it off me $300
ASoS pretty much traced the letters for a pair of Joggers
Daniel Johnston wore the sweater ( more to do with sizing than the design i believe )
It was Photoshopped off a t-shirt in a Straight Edge Hardcore record ( Dirty Money )
I got a fair few free hangovers off bar tenders who were wearing it
Anyway, Saturday was also the day
Lost Art decieded to try a small re-run of beer slugs t-shirts. The shop editions sold out in a day so a pre-order is up now on their website and i feel i'm gonna have print cramp fingers next week!

LOST ART x JOHN COOPER CLARKE
It didn't sink in until the sparkling waters were being poured out and I'm sat around the big table.
" Dr. John Cooper Clarke is coming to Town for his new Book Launch.
Your gonna sit and av a chat, it'll be filmed we'll extract lines
of your yammering and from their you can put it into pen and ink for new LA collab! "
The caffeine buzz and chewing gum took the hot air out of my brain and into my note book.
Stoked, if it happens it happens.
I dropped the needle on Katy's Orange Plectrum shaped 'Gimmick' 7'' and within 30 seconds
he references skateboarding!
here we go.
The next 7'' put my hands on is recorded Live in Erics '78!
This is all falling in place as the Indian ink flows and the email trains start choo choo'in.
'Gimmick' gets back heeled, tier 3 meant the meet up couldnt go down so it is a agreed
Lines from 'Chicken town' are more relevant than ever.
The Amber turns Green and before ya know it the cameras rolling and im charging round Salford with a new balance box under my arm trying to keep up with West Derby's fastest growth spurt Charlie Birch! @charlie_birch
*Side Note.
Mr Leviathan of Palace Capital County Boutique, please get his face on a postage stamp or a five-pound note before the years out. He's currently operating on a higher frequency. I was honoured to watch.
I limp off the train, the ink has cured on the shirts and the edit will be out any minute.
The Gear will be available through Lost Art Very soon.
Hopefully @johncooperclarke will make it here in one form or another and we can discuss Hoola Hoops, Skateboards, Cheshire, heshers and threshers.
Thank you all @lostartshop heads for me getting me involved here. one for the CV.
My Mum and Dad will stoked on this too.
